In a sign of a slowly recovering office market, engineering firm Stantec has inked a lease for space in a former Amazon office building in Seattle’s Denny Triangle. The company will occupy 10,953 square feet on the ninth floor of Axis 9, according to an announcement from Lake Washington Partners. Located at 1800 Ninth Ave., the Class A office building, constructed in 1990, stands at 15 stories and offers 282,088 square feet of space, with typical floors spanning 18,806 square feet and featuring 12-foot unfinished ceilings, according to LoopNet.com. The property provides a wide range of amenities, including 24-hour controlled access, a conferencing facility and a fitness center.
The owner of the property, Lake Washington Partners, a family-owned commercial real estate investor and developer based in the Puget Sound area, last year announced it would invest $15 million to renovate the then-vacant property. Planned upgrades included adding a full-service ground-floor restaurant that will offer food delivery to tenant suites and common areas, refreshing the outdoor patio and updating the existing 10,000-square-foot fitness center. The renovation was also slated to introduce co-working spaces, high-tech conference rooms, open seating areas on the fourth floor and an on-site concierge service.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Stantec as a tenant at Axis9. Their reputation for sustainable design and innovation is a perfect addition to both the building and the surrounding neighborhood,” Jordan Lott, CEO and President of Lake Washington Partners, said in a released statement. “This lease sets the tone for the high-quality, forward-thinking community we’re building at Axis9, and is another sign of increased interest in downtown Seattle office space. We look forward to announcing additional tenants at Axis9 in the months ahead.”
