FOX 13 moving to former Amazon tower in downtown Seattle

FOX Television Stations is moving from its longtime studios at 1813 Westlake Ave. N. in Seattle to the Axis9 office tower downtown in the Denny Triangle.

The company on Thursday said KCPQ FOX 13 and KZJO FOX 13+ will relocate broadcast and newsroom operations to the second floor of the 16-story Axis9 office tower at 1800 Ninth Ave. The lease is for 27,167 square feet.

Amazon was a previous tenant. The value of the building fell when the tech giant didn’t renew its lease for around two-thirds of the 321,700-square-foot building. Bellevue-based Lake Washington Partners (LKWP) was deeded the building in lieu of foreclosure and made $15 million worth of improvements to attract tenants. Broadcasting from Axis9 is expected to begin in November.

Station Senior Vice President and General Manager Michael Lewis in a release called the move a strategic investment in the station’s future and a commitment to viewers.

“We are confident that Lake Washington Partners will create a state-of-the-art facility equipped with the technology to support our high-quality news and original content, right in the heart of downtown Seattle, an area that has become synonymous with producing cutting-edge advancements,” he added. Denver-headquartered Devlin Design Group is designing and building the studio.
